June has been a whirlwind of graduations, birthdays, and family obligations. It is always inspiring to see the graduates look forward to the future, and reflect on the journey they traveled to get to their achievement. They join others who have walked before them, and cast a shadow for others to follow. In the quilt world, there are always those who are celebrating an achievement, learning a new technique or completing a cherished project. When we share that journey with our guild members, it inspires us and builds new paths for quilters to follow.

July 4 is coming so it is time to get out our patriotic quilts and celebrate our nation’s birthday. There are so many ways our guild constantly refreshes collective dedication to those who serve our country. Barbara Winkler works with Quilts of Valor, inviting our guild members to contribute and volunteer. Philanthropy supports all of the armed forces stationed close by, and we bring donations three times a year to support the families of those troops. We bring toiletries in Spring, school supplies before school starts, and toys in December for the holidays. So, while you are watching fireworks and eating barbecue, remember our guild celebrates our patriots all year long.

We had a wonderful New Members Lunch this month. I really enjoyed getting to know our new members, many with years of quilting experience. I want to thank Susan Derring and her team for making this event enjoyable, delicious, and sociable.

Ann Turley’s lecture at our general meeting was a delight. She was entertaining and informative. She had some great suggestions and our guild members came up with some of their own. We are blessed to have such a wealth of knowledge within our guild.

Don’t forget, there is no meeting in July. I will see you in August.
