OGQG GENERAL MEETING – November 14, 2012

Called to Order @ 9:35 by President Susan Johnson

Welcome   Members, Guests, and new Members.  Welcome to our speaker, Rita Verroca and guests Joann and Janet from the South Bay Quilt Guild with their opportunity quilt.

-Happy Birthday to all who have November birthdays; pick up your birthday Fat Quarters today.

Silence cell phones and pagers; emergency exits:  Exit through sliding doors, kitchen, and the hallway at the back of the room.  Members at the side wall please move tables for easy exit.

Board meeting and Newsletter deadline:   The November Board meeting will be on November 30 at Joann Schaum’s home:  current and incoming Board members and standing committee members only.

The newsletter deadline is November 24 to Pam Himes.

-October Guild Minutes and the Treasurer’s Report:  are in the notebooks by the respective officers (if there are no additions or corrections, they will stand approved as printed).

Sunshine and Shadows:

-Shadows Member Phyllis Berg had two stents replaced due to jaundice; she is under hospice care as of two weeks ago.

Lunch Count/September Speaker Highlights – The lunch count was taken.

Kathy Scharnhorst introduced our December speaker Linda Rasmussen..

Opportunity Quilt 2012-13 :  Please remember to pick up your tickets as well as your guild birthday pins.

 

-Committee Reports:

After Guild Demo – Helen Williams will demonstrate binding.

 

Quilt Show:  We made about $5,000 from this year’s show.  All workers, volunteers, and exhibitors were recognized and applauded for everything they did to make the show a grand success.

There will be a debriefing meeting after today’s Guild meeting.

Ways and Means – Glenda McNeil

We need donations for our baskets.

Workshop – Marie Blash

Signups for 2013 start in December.  Samples of the upcoming presenters’ work were displayed.

Komen – Barbara Purks

The quilt for this upcoming year was displayed.

Bus Trip to Road to California in January 2012:  Eva Jamar

So far 40 tickets (seats) are filled.  There are 15 more available.

Membership:  Joann Schaum

We have 154 members and 4 guests today.

Joann and others will accept membership renewals for the 2013 year during today’s Guild meeting as well as during the December meeting.

Philanthropy – Carol Howerton

We have 325 Christmas stockings finished.

A guest from Words of Comfort, Hope & Promise, Sherril Gerard, spoke to the Guild about her service during the Korean War; she emphasized how much it means to our troops whenever they receive gifts from the “folks at home”.

Announcements:

The ballots for the outstanding member of the year are on the table near the hall entrance.  The outstanding member will be announced at our December meeting.

Barbara Zaft has taken over UFOs for this next round; she is collecting forms today.  The first quilt will be due at our January meeting.  The cost to join the UFO challenge remains at $10.

New Business:

Election of Officers for 2013 – The slate of nominated officers (Mary Stockard, Kathy Scharnhorst, Gayle Wayne, Ellen Roman & Pam Boozan) was read.  Susan asked for nominations from the floor; there were none.  Voting proceeded.

Snacks for the December meeting   the first Wednesday in December   will be S-Z.

The business side of the meeting was adjourned at 10:10.
