Phyllis Berg 2013

Phyllis, a member of Orange Grove since 1991 loved this Guild.  Whenever I visited her, she always asked how things were going at the Guild.Although she was given 6 months to live, she lasted 14 months.  Amazing!

Bea Vieira, Cecilia Hosford, Karen Quane and I attended her Memorial Service on August 16th at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach.  Phyllis has 3 sons who are pastors and they conducted the services.

She was originally from South Dakota.  She taught first thru fourth grades there.  When she and her husband Leno moved to Huntington Beach, she was a librarian at one of the elementary schools.

Phyllis did absolutely fabulous appliqué work.  I’m pleased and proud that I have something that she made.  She was in the Cotton Patchers Friendship Group.  She had the good fortune to have many of her quilts either hanging or draped around her living room where she spent her last days.I visited and spoke with her as often as I could.  She was always dressed and had her make up on and hair beautifully coiffed.    I’m glad that I had the opportunity to visit with her and take quilts to share with her on many occasions.  She loved our private show and tell.
